Account for your Stewardship
“And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward: and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? Give an account of thy stewardship: for thou mayest be no longer steward” –Luke 16:1-2
A steward like all other workers had a specific assignment to do, and he is expected to discharge this assignment diligently in order to be entitled to the reward promised by his employer. In the story told by Jesus Christ above, we see a case of an irresponsible steward who had mismanage the business of his boss. Not surprisingly, the boss is unhappy and has instructed him to give an account of his stewardship to determine whether he should terminate his appointment or still retain his services.
Some people may feel that they are not accountable to God. My simple respond to this is that they should remember the fact no one created himself, all of us were created by God and we are responsible to him. Against this background, we are all his stewards. So the big question still remains, how are you managing your stewardship? Are you behaving like the biblical steward who wasted his master’s goods and business or are you a diligent steward?
God has given us the primary business of soul winning and living a Christ like life. Are you wasting your God given skills and talents to recruit more stewards into the vineyard? Does your attitude in your work place or in other activities portray you as a disciple of Christ?
You have an opportunity to access yourself today and make your ways right. The Bible says it is appointed unto man to die once and after death is judgment, and that the wages of sin is death. Surely God is going to ask us to account for our stewardship one day. For those that prove themselves diligent stewards they will spend eternity with him in heaven, while unworthy stewards will be cast unto the lake of fire. Where do you want to spend eternity? If you have been an unworthy steward wasting the business of your master, today is the best time to make amends, and turn back to Christ.
Do
you want to be a good steward? Then
