Marriage in the Bible

  1. The marriage institution is ordained by God and at one point or the other in ones life, an individual is supposed to get married. So if you do not believe in the institution of marriage, you may have a psychological or emotional problem. A man is bound to naturally incline to a woman, should desire to have a woman as a wife, and one of such relationships should end up in a marriage.

  2. Marriage is meant to be a union of opposite sex. Note what the scripture says, a man will cleave to a woman. Therefore same sex marriages are unscriptural, and in fact could not be described as ‘marriages’. Just like Satan lured Eve to disobey God, Satan has introduced several abnormalities into the world to cause confusion and distort the original plan of God. You should also note that it is only by following God’s simple commandments that you can prosper.

  3. Marriage involves physical separation by the intending Bride and Bridegroom form their Parental homes into a new family. Marriage is a ceremony, and the Bible specifies that your Mother and Father should be aware of this development. If you are a live in lover or you just packed into the house of your Boyfriend or Girlfriend without your parents’ consent, they you have not married. Notwithstanding the years you have spent therein

  4. Marriage signifies a union, a diffusion of two attitudes into one.  A marriage is 2 in 1 and helps us understand the concept of Trinity. If you are in a marriage both of you must be able to agree on issues.

  5. Lastly, the institution of marriage as ordained by God in the beginning is meant to be monogamy. The Bible says a man shall be cleave to his wife and not wives. Though several people in the Bible led Polygamous lives, it was because of lustful desires and lack of self control. The ideal marriage is monogamous.

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and they shall be one flesh- Genesis 2 vs. 24
